Choosing a Data Recovery Company

Interpreting the Claims made by other recovery companies

1) "Free Diagnosis or Free Evaluation" - You get what you pay for. Your probably know your hard drive is already broken. When a company makes this sort of offer, expect a phone call explaining to you there are additional fees if you want a "full diagnosis" performed or expect an invoice for additional "parts". We offer a full diagnosis for only €40.

2) "48 Hour Data Recovery" - it is extremely difficult to predict how long data recovery will take as each data recovery case will be different. Be wary of any company, who makes spurious claims such as "data recovered in 48 hours" when they have not even seen the drive. Claims like this cannot be relied upon.

3) "We Can Repair Your Hard Drive" - Once a hard-drive has suffered mechanical failure, sector failure etc, that drive becomes forever unsafe to put any new data on again. Hard drive repair is performed as a temporary measure only to get the data off and then the said drive should be classified as un-usable. There are no (and never has been) any serviceable parts inside a hard drive. Any company that offers to do "hard drive repair" so that it can be put into normal use again is misleading you.

4) " 95% Success Rates" any data recovery companies who make exaggerated claims of success rates should be taken with a pinch of salt. There are some cases where even the most sophisticated laboratories in the world, belonging to state security agencies cannot get data off a hard drive.
